Audra McDonald is unparalleled in the range and variety of her talents as an actor and singer. Audra McDonald, who won six Tony Awards in a row and two Grammy Awards in 2015 was listed as one of the Time magazine's 100 Most Influential people. The president Barack Obama also awarded her the National Medal of Arts -the highest honor in America to recognize excellence in the field. With a stunning soprano with an extraordinary talent for telling dramatic truths the actress is just as at home on Broadway and the opera scene as she is in her film and TV roles. She is an accomplished performer as a recording artist and concert performer and regularly performs at some of the most sought-after concert halls around the world. A musically inclined family, McDonald lived living in Fresno California and received her classical vocal training at the New York's Juilliard School. A year after graduating she received her debut Tony Award for Best Performance by a Featured Actress in a Musical for Carousel at the Lincoln Center Theater (1994). In the following four years she was awarded two more Tony Awards for the category of principal actress. She performed in Broadway premier productions of Terrence McNally's musical Ragtime and Terrence McNally's show Master Class in 1996. That was a staggering amount of three Tony Awards by the time she turned 30. In 2004, she took home her fourth Tony in the role of Sean Diddy Combs in A Raisin in the Sun and in 2012 she won her fifth--and her first for the category of leading actress in the role of her lead as the title character in The Gershwins Porgy and Bess. The actress made Broadway historical records in 2014 when she became the top-recognized Tony Award nominee. She played Billie Holiday at Emerson's Bar & Grill in the show, that also helped launch her Olivier Award nominated debut on London's West End in 2017, was her sixth Tony Award. In addition to setting records for the highest number of performances that an actor has won in a competition she also became the first actor to be awarded awards in each of the four acting categories. The other plays she has appeared in are The Secret Garden (1993) Marie Christine (1999) Henry IV (2004) 110 in the Shade (2007) Twelfth Night (2009) in which she made the release of her Public Theater Shakespeare in the Park debut film, Shuffle Along or The Making of the Musical Sensation from 1921 along with All That Followed (2016) Frankie and Johnny in Clair de Lune (2019) as well as Ohio State Murders (2023). McDonald was introduced to a television audience as a dramatic actress in Peabody Award winning CBS's Having Our Say:"The Delany Sisters first 100 years. The year 1999 saw her co-starred alongside Kathy Bates in ABC's acclaimed remake of Annie. She also had a recurring part in NBC's Law & Order Special Victims Unit in the year 2000. McDonald, who earned the Emmy Award nomination back in 1999 for her performance for the HBO version of Pulitzer Prize-winning show Wit which starred Emma Thompson was back on network TV in 2003 with the drama about politics Mister Sterling. The film is produced by Emmy Award-winning Lawrence O'Donnell Jr. In early 2006 she joined the cast of the show on WB called The Bedford Diaries and over her next season, she appeared in a recurring role on NBC's television series Kidnapped. McDonald received a fourth Emmy nomination in her performance in HBO's film special of Lady Day at Emerson's Bar and Grill in 2016. The Bite is a drama featuring six episodes that are based on the pandemic that was co-produced through Spectrum Originals & CBS Studios. McDonald starred alongside Taylor Schilling & Steven Pasquale. McDonald began her role as U.S. lawyer Liz Lawrence (now Liz Reddick), in CBS's law-and-order crime thriller The Good Wife, in the year 2009. In 2018, she played the same role again in The Good Fight for Paramount+ as a regular on the series. Her performance was recognized with three Critics Choice Award Nominations. In the present, she's a guest star in Julian Fellowes' historical drama The Gilded Age, which is telecast on HBO.
