Catherine Ford was born Bloomsbury in London. After her father had left, the Ford family was looked after by her grandmother, mom and godparents. While a small infant, Ford struggled with anxiety and obsessive-compulsive disorder caused by word associations. Ford was attracted to acting in her teenage years she joined the National Youth Theatre. Ford was accepted into the Sylvia Young Theatre School. After just a week she decided it wasn't suitable for her. Ford later applied to be a student at the Central School of Speech and Drama and received an acceptance on her fourth attempt. Shaun Dingwall played Pete Tyler on Doctor Who. Ford's television debut was in the 1991 episode Surgical Spirit. By the when she finished her studies, Ford already went by "Catherine Tate". Tate began her TV debut in 1991, appearing on television shows like The Bill. Men Behaving Badly. and London's Burning. Tate also performed regularly in the theatre, eventually joining the Royal Shakespeare Company for its 2000-2001 season. Tate began to gain attention for her stand up comedy in the year 1996.
